GILLES VAN DEN MEERSSCHE (Supervisor)

Team member in the spotlight:

Growing and innovating

How did you start at VDN&P?

After about three years in the accountancy sector, I was looking for a  new challenge. I needed additional training to broaden my knowledge, which wasn’t possible with my previous employer.

I applied at VDN&P during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pleasant and open interviews took place via video call, and soon I was able to sign my contract. What attracted me the most was the opportunity and the expectation for training and development as from day one, the possibility to express my interests, and to work alongside experienced colleagues.

What exactly do you do at VDN&P?

I started at VDN&P as a client manager, initially in a supporting role. Thanks to my prior experience with the software packages used, I was able to quickly work independently on client files.

Over the years, I progressed to becoming a client advisor, with the necessary guidance in terms of tax knowledge.

Since early 2024, I am fulfilling the role of supervisor, leading a small team of three colleagues. Guiding people, knowledge transfer, people management—this is an entirely new path for me, with lots of grow opportunities.

Together, we manage the clients in our portfolio from A to Z. I find it important to regularly have personal conversations with my clients about their entrepreneurship, as well as their needs and desires. Sometimes I visit them on-site: by being visible and easily approachable, you can react much more quickly as an accountant.

Work hard, play hard

What do you like most about the work culture?

I enjoy the warm atmosphere within the company. We work hard, and sometimes we need to push a bit harder, but there’s also time for some fun. Work hard, play hard. Our efforts are rewarded and satisfied clients make our day.

Management listens to our ideas and initiatives, and they actively act on them. Feedback and input are appreciated, and there’s transparency if certain things can’t be implemented.

Recently, I also got the chance to dive into a new subject and do preparatory work on a major acquisition deal. Being introduced to new topics keeps the job interesting.

Why are you proud to work for VDN&P?

By segmenting client advisors based on the specific needs and requirements of different types of clients, we can provide tailored services and better meet our clients’ needs.

We’re also keeping up with the digital transition. New programs and tools are consistently adopted and used. There’s a lot of expertise in the programs we use.

What would you tell to someone considering working at VDN&P?

You’ll be joining a fun, warm group where you’ll quickly feel welcome.
Moreover, there are plenty of opportunities for internal or external training. For example, obtaining the ITAA certification or an additional diploma is highly supported.
VDN&P is fully on board with the digital shift, creating more opportunities for the advisory role of the accountant, with a tailored plan to grow in this area. Accountancy is more than just booking invoices, submitting VAT returns, or finalizing business results. So… if you want to become the accountant of the future, there’s only one place to be: VDN&P!
